Tech Troubleshooting

The rice cooker makes a strange noise during cooking.
Q. Do you hear a humming, whirring, or buzzing sound ("Woong", "Wing", "Boong") during cooking?
IH (Induction Heating) and IR (Infrared) pressure rice cookers utilize a surrounding heat-induction technology that generates high internal temperatures during the cooking process. To cool down this internal heat and protect the electronics, a cooling fan installed at the bottom of the appliance automatically activates, which naturally produces a humming or whirring sound.
  • The type or volume of the noise may vary depending on environmental factors, such as whether it is winter or summer, whether the cooker is placed in a spacious or confined area, or the level of vibration from the countertop or shelf it is placed on.
Steam is leaking from the edges of the lid.
Q. Is there any foreign substance or debris stuck to the rubber gasket?
Please clean the gasket thoroughly with a dry cloth or soft rag before using the cooker. Always keep the area around the rubber gasket clean and clear of residue.
Q. Is the rubber gasket worn out or degraded?

The lifespan of a rubber gasket is approximately 12 months. We highly recommend replacing it once a year to maintain a proper seal. Please try replacing your current gasket with a new one.

The delayed cooking (preset timer) function isn't working.

Q. Did you select a menu that supports the delayed cooking function?

Please make sure to select a menu that allows delayed cooking, and then set your desired completion time before starting.
*Supported menus for delayed cooking vary by model. Please refer to your specific user manual for details.

Q. Did you press the [Start/Quick] button after setting the timer?

The delayed cooking feature will only activate after you press the [Start/Quick] button following your time adjustment. Please try setting the timer again and ensure you press the [Start/Quick] button. If the cooking still does not complete at the set time, we recommend having the unit inspected by a professional service technician for an accurate diagnosis.

💡 Useful Tips & Information for Delayed Cooking

  • Status Display: Once delayed cooking begins, the preset time and the selected menu will remain visible on the display indicator.
  • Cooking Stages: The cycle progresses in the following order: Preset Timer Count Down → Cooking Starts → Steaming → Keep-Warm (Cooking Complete).
  • Memory Function: After a delayed cooking cycle is completed, the rice cooker automatically saves and remembers the last set timer duration for your convenience.
  • Summer Safety Limit: During the hot summer months, rice can easily spoil or sour if left in water too long. Please restrict your delayed cooking timer to a maximum of 10 hours.
  • Rice Condition: If the rice has been opened for a long time or is overly dry, it may result in unevenly cooked rice or broken, crumbly grains.
  • Under-cooked Rice Solution: If the rice turns out slightly under-cooked, try adding about half a mark more water than the standard inner pot line on your next cycle.
  • Cool Down Before Setting: If the inside of the cooker is still hot from a previous cycle, setting a delayed cooking timer immediately can cause the rice to spoil. Allow the unit to cool down completely before programming the timer.
  • Preventing Food Spoilage: Depending on the ambient room temperature and the type or freshness of your ingredients, components can degrade quickly. Avoid setting long-duration timers when mixing in perishable ingredients.
  • Melanoizing (Slight Scorching): When rice sits in water for an extended period, fine starches settle at the bottom of the inner pot. This can cause more noticeable melanoizing (a golden-brown crust or slight scorching at the bottom) compared to immediate regular cooking.
The rice dries out and turns yellowish during the keep-warm mode.

Adjusting the keep-warm temperature setting can often resolve this issue. Since the adjustment steps vary depending on your specific model, please refer to the 'Keep-Warm Temperature Setting' section in your user manual

Odors and excess moisture during the keep-warm mode are usually caused by bacterial growth or issues with moisture drainage. Please check the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Clean the Detachable Lid and Steam Vent: If rice water residue or starch is left on the detachable clean cover, pressure packing, or inside the automatic steam vent, bacteria can grow and cause a foul odor when heated. Ensure these parts are regularly washed and dried.
  • Empty the Water Drain Drip Tray: Check the water collector (drip tray) located at the back of the rice cooker. If it is full or hasn't been cleaned, condensation cannot drain properly, causing moisture to overflow back into the pot and create an unpleasant smell.
  • Worn Pressure Packing: If the lid's rubber packing is old or stretched out, external air can leak into the cooker, leading to excessive condensation (water pooling) and rapid spoilage of the rice. We recommend replacing the packing every 1 to 1.5 years.
  • Keep-Warm Duration: Storing rice on the keep-warm setting for more than 12 to 24 hours naturally increases the likelihood of odors and moisture buildup. For the best quality, consume the rice as soon as possible or store leftovers in the freezer.
  • Thorough Rice Washing: Ensure the rice is rinsed thoroughly. Residual starch or impurities left on the grains can spoil quickly under warm temperatures, generating a distinct sour or stale odor.
The clean cover (detachable inner lid) keeps falling off.

In the case of the standard clean cover, the rubber packing naturally wears out over time with regular use, which can cause the cover to loosen and fall off.

The clean cover handle can be purchased separately at our Service Center.

The rice cooker lid does not open easily

Q. Is the product brand new?

A rubber pressure packing is installed on the inside of the lid. This packing engages with the inner pot to seal in the pressure. When the product is new, the airtight seal between the packing and the inner pot is very tight, which can make the lid feel heavy or stiff when opening and closing.

Additionally, due to this strong seal, the sudden release of pressure when the lid pops open can cause the entire unit to momentarily jolt or lift slightly. This symptom will gradually lessen over time with regular use.

  • Quick Guide to Verify if It Is a Packing-Related Issue:
Remove the inner pot from the cooker, close the lid, and then try opening and closing it again. You will notice that the lid opens and closes very smoothly and lightly without the inner pot inside.

Q. Have you recently replaced the pressure packing?

After replacing the pressure packing with a new one, the airtight seal between the packing and the inner pot becomes very strong, mimicking the behavior of a brand-new product. You may experience a heavy or stiff feeling, requiring you to press down firmly to close the lid or lift the lid up manually when opening it.

Additionally, due to this strong seal, the sudden release of pressure when the lid pops open can cause the entire unit to momentarily jolt or lift slightly.

  • Quick Guide to Verify if It Is a Packing-Related Issue:
Remove the inner pot from the cooker, close the lid, and then try opening and closing it again. You will notice that the lid opens and closes very smoothly and lightly without the inner pot inside.

Q. Did this symptom start happening all of a sudden?

If this is not a newly purchased product, you have not recently replaced the packing, and the stiffness started unexpectedly, an expert inspection is required. We recommend having the unit checked by a professional service technician to ensure an accurate diagnosis.

Steam comes out of the steam vent during cooking.

When using specialized taste settings such as "Sticky White Rice" or "Regular White Rice," steam will be released during the cooking cycle. This is a normal operation designed to automatically regulate and balance the internal pressure of the inner pot.

* The frequency of steam release may vary depending on the cooking stage and pressure levels.

The rice cooker makes a clicking or ticking sound during cooking or keep-warm mode

If there is moisture on the exterior of the inner pot, a "clicking," "ticking," or "cracking" sound may occur as the internal heating plate warms up and heats the water droplets on the pot's surface.

Please always wipe the outside of the inner pot completely dry before use.

The rice gets scorched (scorching at the bottom).

Initial Stage of Use

□ Coated Inner Pot Models

The starch powder generated when washing rice settles to the bottom during cooking. As it heats up first, the bottom surface turns yellowish. This is a natural melanization (rice scorching or browning) phenomenon.
The unit is intentionally designed this way to bring out a savory aroma, rich flavor, and delicious texture. It does not indicate a product defect.
This phenomenon may occur more visibly when using the preset (delayed) cooking timer, when soaking the rice beforehand, or if the rice is rinsed fewer times.

□ Stainless Steel Inner Pot Models

Stainless steel inner pots do not have a non-stick coating. Due to the inherent nature of the material, rice grains or food residue may stick or scorch to the bottom of the pot.
Soak the pot in warm water for 15 to 30 minutes, then wash it gently with a soft sponge. This is normal behavior for the material, so you can use it with peace of mind.

Q. Have you tried adjusting the cooking temperature?

If you prefer to reduce the scorching effect, you can lower the heat settings using the Fine Taste Adjustment feature.

The method for adjusting the cooking temperature varies depending on the product model. Please refer to the user manual for your specific model.

< How to Adjust Cooking Temperature > 121 Rice Cooker (CRR-RPK, LIP108 Series)

  1. [Settings]: In standby mode, press the [Settings] button 3 times.
  2. [Select Menu]: Press the [Menu] button to select your desired Fine Taste Adjustment menu, then press the [Start/Turbo] button.Available menus: Sticky White Rice, Regular White Rice, Mixed Grains, Brown Rice 100%, Healthy Bean Rice, Gamasot (Iron Pot) Rice, Dolsot (Stone Pot) Rice, Frozen White Rice, Frozen Mixed Grains.
  3. [Soaking Time]: Press the [<, >] buttons to select the soaking time, then press the [Start/Turbo] button.Note: Increasing the soaking time extends the cooking time and allows more soluble starch to dissolve and settle, which can cause heavier browning than normal cooking. Therefore, it is recommended to keep the soaking time at its default setting (0 minutes).
  4. [Temperature]: Press the [<, >] buttons to select the cooking temperature.

5. [Save]: Press the [Start/Turbo] button to save your Fine Taste Adjustment settings. The unit will save the configuration and immediately begin cooking.

Note: If there is no button input for 15 seconds during setup, the process will be canceled and the changes will not be saved.

※ Cooking times and results can be affected by the condition of the rice, water temperature, and water volume.
※ Increase the cooking temperature if you want a more savory, browned flavor, and lower the temperature if you want less browning.

Q. Is the scorching still inconvenient even after lowering the cooking temperature?

If the issue persists, we recommend having the unit inspected by a professional service technician to verify whether the symptom is caused by a mechanical issue rather than standard melanization.

The pressure weight is not moving, and the rice is not cooking well.

Have you removed the protective sponge attached to the pressure weight on the product lid?

Depending on the model, new products may come with a sponge wrapped around the pressure weight for packaging protection. Please remove the protective sponge from the pressure weight before operating the unit.

Q. Did you cook too large a quantity of rice?

Cooking Large Quantities
Electric pressure rice cookers are designed to handle up to their indicated maximum capacity. However, when cooking at maximum capacity, the internal space inside the inner pot becomes restricted. This can limit the circulation of heat and moisture, which may result in sub-optimal rice quality.

This is a natural occurrence depending on the volume of rice being cooked. For a more consistent and even rice texture, we recommend cooking 1 to 2 servings less than the maximum capacity.

Cooking Small Quantities
The pressure weight is a component designed to regulate internal pressure, and it is difficult to determine whether a product is malfunctioning based solely on whether the pressure weight moves. If the rice turns out normal and well-cooked after the cycle finishes, and there are no other unusual symptoms during use, the product can be considered operating normally.

However, if the rice quality is poor after cooking or if unusual symptoms persist during the cooking process, we recommend having the product inspected by a professional technician for an accurate diagnosis.

Q. Did you soak the rice before cooking?
If you soak the rice in advance before cooking, the rice grains will have already absorbed moisture. As a result, the boiling process and steam emission during the cooking cycle may differ from usual, and the rice may turn out too soggy or mushy.

If you did not soak the rice, yet the rice quality is poor after cooking or other unusual symptoms persist, we recommend having the product inspected by a professional technician for an accurate diagnosis.

The cooking time freezes during cooking, and then the remaining time suddenly changes.

During the cooking process, specifically at the stage where the water boils and pressure builds up, the rice cooker automatically regulates its internal temperature and pressure. As a result, the remaining time may temporarily freeze or adjust on certain segments of the countdown display.

This is a completely normal part of the cooking process and does not indicate a product defect. However, if the quality of your cooked rice is affected or if this exact same symptom persists repeatedly, we recommend having the unit inspected.

A white film forms after cooking.

The phenomenon where a white, film-like substance appears on the inner pot or on the surface of the rice after cooking is a natural occurrence that can happen when rice is cooked without the starch being sufficiently washed away.

During the cooking process, steam containing starch is generated, and as this steam comes into contact with the outside air and cools down, it can manifest in the form of a white film.

When washing the rice, please rinse it thoroughly until the water runs clear before cooking. Additionally, cleaning the inner pot with a soft sponge after cooking can help alleviate this symptom

There is a gap between the rice cooker lid and the body, and they do not fit tightly together.

The rice cooker is intentionally designed with a slight gap (play) between the lid and the main body due to its structural layout.

As the internal temperature and pressure rise during the cooking process, the components can expand or move minutely. This gap is a normal structural feature intended to absorb these changes and prevent friction or deformation between parts. Additionally, this design ensures the lid opens and closes smoothly while reducing noise and component wear over long-term use.

As long as there are no abnormal symptoms, such as steam leaking during cooking, the product is operating normally and is completely safe to use.

Inner-Pot

[Stainless Steel Inner-Pot] Rice sticks to the pot.

Because stainless steel inner pots are uncoated, it is a natural characteristic of the material for rice grains or food residue to stick or scorch slightly to the bottom and sides.

If residue sticks to the pot after cooking, keeping warm, or preparing a dish, simply pour warm water into the pot and let it soak for 15 to 30 minutes. The residue will soften and can be easily wiped clean with a soft sponge. This is a standard occurrence due to the nature of the material, not a product defect, so you can continue to use your cooker with peace of mind.

Q. Does the rice seem to stick even more during the keep-warm cycle (after cooking is complete)?

Due to the nature of stainless steel, when you fluff and mix the rice after cooking or during the keep-warm cycle, rice grains or a starchy film can adhere to the inside of the pot. This may cause the surface to look white or make the rice appear slightly scorched.

This is a completely normal phenomenon for an uncoated stainless steel inner pot. To minimize this, when stirring and fluffing the rice, gently gather it toward the center of the pot to prevent individual grains from sticking to the empty upper sidewalls.

[Stainless Steel Inner Pot] Water stains or rainbow-colored discolorations have appeared on the inner pot.

Since stainless steel inner pots are uncoated, minerals naturally present in some ingredients can remain in the pot after cooking, which may cause water spots or rainbow-colored discolorations.

These water spots and rainbow stains are entirely harmless to the human body, so you can continue to use your rice cooker with peace of mind.

[Stainless Steel Inner Pot Cleaning Methods]

Method 1: Using Vinegar or Lemon Juice

Dampen a dry cloth with a generous amount of vinegar or lemon juice and gently rub the affected areas. This is highly effective for removing light stains and mineral discoloration.

Method 2: Using Food-Grade Citric Acid
  1. Place the inner pot by itself inside the sink.
  2. Boil water separately in a kettle or pot, and pour the warm/hot water into the inner pot until all the stains are completely submerged.(⚠️ Note: Do not place the inner pot directly on a stovetop or heating element to boil water like a regular cooking pot.)
  3. Add 2 teaspoons (approx. 10g) of food-grade citric acid to the water inside the inner pot and mix until dissolved.
  4. Allow it to soak for 1 to 2 hours to loosen the stains, then wash thoroughly using a soft sponge.*Depending on the severity of the stains, you can increase the amount of citric acid and extend the soaking time before washing.
  5. Rinse the inner pot thoroughly multiple times under running water.

When should I replace the pressure rubber packing (rubber gasket)?

The pressure packing is a consumable item that naturally wears down after about one year of regular use.

Once the packing becomes worn out, it must be replaced. Delaying replacement can lead to various performance issues, such as:

  • Steam Leakage: Steam escapes through the gaps around the lid during cooking.
  • Silent Cooking: Cooking completes without the distinct sound of steam being released through the automatic vent.
  • Poor Rice Texture: The cooked rice loses its stickiness and fluffiness (lack of optimal pressure).
  • Rapid Spoiling During Warming: The rice dries out quickly, develops an odor, or discolors during the keep-warm mode.

If you experience any of these symptoms, please replace the pressure packing. Continuing to use the unit with a worn-out packing can expose other components to escaping steam, which may lead to discoloration, warping, or component failure.

I want to buy a replacement packing, but which one should I buy?

When you click the main menu 'Parts' on the official Cuchen Mall (https://www.cuchenusamall.com, you will find a list of compatible model numbers.
